**In a boosting system, the geometric height is the physical height that the water has to be lifted, in order to reach the consumer. **

The geodetic height is the vertical distance from the pump to the tap or from the supply point to suction inlet of the pump.

**Why is it important?**

The geometric height is used when sizing pumps for an installation. It represents a part of the total energy which the pump has to deliver to the water in order to make sufficient pressure in the consumers water tap.

Geometric height is particular an issue when seizing pumps for tall buildings since the geometric height (hmax) in those cases has a big influence on the sizing equation.

**The sizing equation
P _{set} = P_{tap(min)} + P_{f} + (h_{max}/10.2)**

P_{set} = the required outlet pressure from the booster

P_{tap(min)} = the required minimum pressure at the highest tapping point in the zone

P_{f} = pipe pressure loss from the booster outlet to the highest tapping point

h_{max} = the height from the booster to the highest tapping point
