Duravit AG, Hornberg, produces sanitary ceramics, bathroom furniture, accessories, baths, shower bases and health products and has undergone considerable growth in recent years, particularly in its export business. The company (2,300 employees, turnover around €160 million) has been influential in the development of the sanitary industry worldwide and has become a trend setter for innovative bathroom design.
The internationally renowned designer Philippe Starck has designed a striking 19 m high building for the new Duravit Design Center – an outstanding building both literally and figuratively. On the side facing the new main road, Starck has ripped open the front and inserted a giant three storey-high toilet as a lookout tower (it is even floodlit at night). Visitors can get a fantastic view of the Black Forest from the top 12 metres up. This unique building not only highlights the Duravit brand, but also its products. Grandiose indeed!
The Grundfos Solution
The building has become a real El Dorado for trade and craftspeople from all over the world. In a skilful layout of workshop, showroom and events and product exhibition space, specialists from the sanitary industry as well as end users can become acquainted with the product and performance potential of Duravit. Workshops and seminars inform architects and planners about all they want to know about architecture and bathrooms, water and lifestyle, and those that want to can even view the latest pump technology in action. The Design Center is equipped with heating pumps from the Magna UPE and UPS series and cooling pumps from the TP, LP, LM and TPE series. The sanitary industry mainly uses AP-type submersible pumps including controllers.
The latest energy-saving pumps from Grundfos are installed in line with our motto "Design meets Emotion meets Art of Technique!". The entire technical installation, including implementation planning (air conditioning and cooling systems, the entire MSR and heating and sanitary installations), falls to the responsibility of H. Maurer GmbH, Schramberg. This design company prefers to work with Grundfos products, as confirmed by authorised representative Rainer Bühl: "The pumps supplied by this manufacturer offer clear technical benefits in construction engineering. This counts for a lot in complex building management systems. Grundfos is our First Supplier."
